RE: the Riot Grrrl project - as someone has very fairly pointed out, the handful of bands I chose to represent in that promo image I drew is not a fair representation of Riot Grrrl, especially not in terms of racial diversity. I was thinking about that while drawing it, and I want this project to be about as many aspects from diverse voices, including room for critique of the movement and the perception of Riot Grrrl as this movement that only depicts the same five middle-class white girls. I’m not so familiar with the UK side of Riot Grrrl and was focusing a lot on the American scene, and should’ve really done some more research before impatiently lobbing up the first thing I drew without thinking. I will do better from here on.
I want to make this a good, inclusive book, and that is my priority in making it.
New Project Announcement - Riot Grrrl Anthology!
I’m very proud to announce that I am working on a new collaborative book together with a group of some very talented people – it’s planned to be out in time for Thought Bubble in mid-November. Some of you will be thrilled to hear that it’s going to be a full-colour anthology about and inspired by Riot Grrrl!
I’m hoping to put together a book that celebrates, examines and critiques…
